Oil Painting Tips for Beginners

If you’ve never learned how to play music, sitting with a group of musicians using technical terms to describe their work can be a whirlwind of confusing, beautiful language. A similar situation can occur when speaking with artists who paint with oils: suddenly you’re in a conversation where they’re debating the finer points of pigments, discussing the benefits of canvas versus linen, or sharing recipes for homemade gesso, brush recommendations, and a technique called “wet-on-wet.” The abundance of language that goes along with oil painting may feel overwhelming at first, but if you take the time to familiarize yourself with its terms and best practices, you’ll be on your way to using with the centuries-old medium with ease.
If you’re just starting out though, don’t expect Old Masters realness from your first few artworks. Whether you’re new to paint, or an artist who typically works in another medium, like acrylics or watercolors, it will take some time to learn oil paint’s specific qualities––most notably its slow drying time and strict rules for layering. As with any medium, it’s best to alleviate yourself of high expectations, and afford yourself room for experimentation and discovery.
To help bright-eyed artists eager to try oils, we spoke with two artists who also teach painting and compiled five tips for familiarizing yourself with the medium.

PENCIL

A pencil is a writing implement or art medium constructed of a narrow, solid pigment core inside a protective casing which prevents the core from being broken and/or from leaving marks on the user’s hand during usePencils create marks by physical abrasion, leaving behind a trail of solid core material that adheres to a sheet of paper or other surface. They are distinct from pens, which instead disperse a trail of liquid or gel ink that stains the light colour of the paper by absorption.

Most pencil cores are made of graphite mixed with a clay binder which leaves grey or black marks that can be easily erased. Graphite pencils are used for both writing and drawing and result in durable markings: though writing is easily removable with an eraser, it is otherwise resistant to moisture, most chemicals, ultraviolet radiation, and natural aging. Other types of pencil core are less widely used, such as charcoal pencils, which are mainly used by artists for drawing and sketching. Coloured pencils are sometimes used by teachers or editors to correct submitted texts, but are typically regarded as art supplies, especially those with waxy core binders that tend to smear on paper instead of erasing. Grease pencils have a softer, crayon-like waxy core that can leave marks on smooth surfaces such as glass or porcelain.

The most common type of pencil casing is of thin wood, usually hexagonal in section but sometimes cylindrical, permanently bonded to the core. Similar permanent casings may be constructed of other materials such as plastic or paper. To use the pencil, the casing must be carved or peeled off to expose the working end of the core as a sharp point. Mechanical pencils have more elaborate casings which are not permanently bonded to the core. Instead, the casing supports a separate, mobile piece of pigment core that can be extended or retracted through the casing tip as needed; these pencil casings can be re-loaded with a new core usually graphite

Diffrent types of pencils

H PENCIL

H Pencil

Here, the term ‘H’ stands for ‘hardness’ which depicts the nature of the lead in a pencil. These pencils are used for more technical purposes. The H pencils have hard lead, which means they are lighter in shade. Also, these pencils are made up of large amounts of clay that creates a very light line density while writing, and doesn’t even leave a mark on the paper. Although, these pencils have an exceptional tensile strength, they too give a smooth feel while using. Because of their hard lead and light shade, H pencils are ideal for drafting and engineering applications. They can be used in drawing and making of blue prints, drafts for designs,

On the other hand, the HB pencil is one of the most popular in the lead hardness categories. They are standard and known for their general writing purposes. The term ‘HB’ is universal and is usually printed on all pencils. It means that the pencil is hard and black, and depicts the hardness and the nature of the lead used in the pencil. HB pencils have a limited amount of clay in them, which gives a medium line density while writing. The pencil lead is mediocre in shade which leaves a visible mark on the paper. Also, the pencil has good tensile strength and gives a smooth feel while writing. Being light in shade, these pencils are easy to erase, which makes it a favorite among children, who use it to improve their ‘penmanship’ in school.

She started her career in television as an anchor in a Muslim oriented television quiz show named Punyamaasathiloode and the Orbit Digital vision production SHRUTHILAYAM on KAIRALI 2005, Produced by Sameer Glory. She then started her acting career in 2006 as a child artist by acting in the Malayalam film Palunku (2006), directed by Blessy, in which she played the daughter of Mammootty's character.[5] She went on to become an anchor on Asianet's music reality television show Munch Star Singer.[5] The Mohanlal-starrer Oru Naal Varum (2010) was her next venture, in which she played the role of Dhanya, the daughter of Sreenivasan's character.[10] She was cast in an album titled Yuvvh by Sony Music Entertainment, which became very popular among the youth.[5]

Nazriya finally landed in her first female lead role in the Malayalam film Maad Dad (2013). She was associated with the team of Yuvvh—director Alphonse Putharen and actor Nivin Pauly— again for the romantic comedy thriller film Neram—which was simultaneously made in Tamil and Malayalam. The movie became a big success, and the lead pair was appreciated by both critics and audiences alike. The scene in which Nivin proposes to Nazriya acquired cult status among cinegoers.[11][12] She was then seen in Raja Rani, as an IT professional called Keerthana.[13] Gautaman Bhaskaran from Hindustan Times wrote: "the one person who caught my attention was Nazriya Nazim, who as Arya's lover Keerthana, is absolutely gorgeous with a face that is so expressive that we do not need her to speak".[14] Her next release was Naiyaandi, in which she played the role of a dentist.[15]
In 2014, she was first seen in Salalah Mobiles, which flopped despite having a strong star cast, including Dulquer Salmaan.[16] She has completed filming for Thirumanam Enum Nikkah in Tamil,[17] in which she acts as a Tamil Iyengar girl,[18] and Om Shanthi Oshaana in Malayalam. Om Shanthi Oshaana saw her sharing screen space with her lucky charm Nivin Pauly. As expected, the film became a big hit, and became one of the biggest blockbusters of the entire industry, running 50 days in almost all theatres.[19] Her most recent films are Bangalore Days and Samsaaram Aarogyathinu Haanikaram in Malayalam, Thirumanam Ennum Nikkah and Vaayai Moodi Pesavum[20] in Tamil. Nazriya was signed to star in Nee Nalla Varuvada in October 2013.[21] However, in March 2014, Kajal Aggarwal was signed on and replaced Nazriya. In 2014, she received a Vijay Award in the category of Best Debut Actress for her acting in Neram (2013).[citation needed] She won the best actress in the 45th Kerala State Film Awards. Nazriya will be making a comeback with the Untitled Prithviraj Anjali Menon Film after taking a break from films after getting married to Fahadh Faasil
